Programm 10: Undergraduate Research Conference – Department of Mass Media, Sri Palee Campus

Department of Mass Media, Sri Palee Campus, organized an Undergraduate Research Conference on the 22nd of February 2023. Theme of the conference was “The structure and dynamics of Media and Liberal Arts”. Sub-themes of the conference were Culture and communication, New trends in Media and Liberal Arts, Media management and their
challengers, Creative industry in Media and Liberal Arts, Ethics, traditions, and their practices, Technological consumption of Media and Liberal Arts, Digital Media and Networking and Media Marketing and Consumerism.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo Senior Professor (Chair) H. D. Karunaratne graced the event as the chief dignitary of the occasion. Gathering was addressed by the Rector of the Sri Palee campus Dr. Prathibha Mahanamahewa, Dr Sugath Mahinda Senarath, Head of the Department of Mass Media and Chair of the conference Ms. Nayana Suraweera, Lecturer of the Department of Mass Media. Proceeding book has offered by Secretary of the conference Mr. Amila Lokumannage, Lecturer of the Department of Mass Media. Professor Yanqiu Zhang, Deputy Dean, The Institute for a Community with Shared Future (ICSF), Communication University of China was the keynote speaker of the conference. Professor Tudor Weerasinghe delivered the Plenary Speech. There were 135 researches published related to Media and Liberal Arts by undergraduates from four (04) difference state Universities. Before the conference all the abstract reviewed by respected panel and gave their comments for students. According to their
guideline they have done their corrections and there was a workshop for all the presenters regarding how to present their abstract on conference. Conference day also students shared their knowledge and got comments for their panels and all the presenters actively participated for the all sessions. Other undergraduates also participated as audience and organizers for the event. During the event the vice chancellor expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for their contribution for the research culture.
