The University Mass Communication Teachers Association (UMTA) and the Department of
Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Media Law Forum,
conduct an awareness workshop on Media Law for mass communication undergraduates in state
universities. The workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of media laws and their
impact on media practice, including the Online Safety Act.
The workshop started on 2024.09.13 at the Colombo university and then at the University of Sri
Jayewardenepura. The third workshop was held on the 10th of October at the Department of
Mass Media, Sri Palee campus. It’s provided an excellent opportunity for undergraduates to
engage with legal experts, media practitioners, and scholars through lectures and group
discussions. The workshop accommodated 40-45 participants. Coordinated by Senior Lecturer
