Prof. Prathibha Mahanamahewa assumed duties of the Post of Rector with effect from 15th March 2021 as the 7th Rector of the Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo.
Prof. Prathibha Mahanamahewa served as a Senior Lecturer, in the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo in Sri Lanka before taking up the new appointment.
A former Human Rights Commissioner of Sri Lanka, he represented the World Sri Lankan Association in the recently concluded 39th Session of The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
He has been serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Law University of Technology, Jamaica, from October 8, 2018 and he is also the Founder and Dean of the Faculty of Law of Sir John Kotewelawala Defense University, Rathmalana, Sri Lanka.
Prof. Mahanamahewa holds Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Law from the University of Queensland (Australia), University of Melbourne (Australia) and the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka), respectively, to his credit. He is an attorney-at-law in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and has membership in the International and the Sri Lanka Bar Association.
