Abstracts are now invited for the Annual International Conference on Media and Liberal Arts for Sustainable Development 2024, organized by the Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo, in partnership with Annual International Research Symposium of University of Colombo. This Conference will provide a platform to showcase your creative and innovative approaches in Media and Performing Arts and cutting-edge research in the realm of living values education and join hands with the organizers to shape the future of education. Research papers from paper presenters are put into publication in the form of conference proceedings. We welcome scholarly abstracts across a full range of interests from all the Universities and are welcome to contribute by presenting at the conference to making the event success.
THEME – Excellence in Research in Media and Creative Arts
Human society is either media and communication, or media and communication are human society. Active and creative engagement in media and communication have a significant impact on every element of human life, including social and personal life. It is the fundamental basis of all things, whether they are peace, war, progress, joy, concern, or any other emotion. Human communication advances with human interest through creativity and creative arts. The term “creative arts” refers to a diverse range of art styles. Visual arts and performing arts are the two main categories of creative arts. While performing arts include giving a performance in front of an audience, visual arts involve generating visuals. Many psychological, emotional, and social advantages can come from engaging in creative activities. Visual artists employ their skills to produce emotionally and aesthetically pleasing artwork. Visual art can be utilized to tell stories, express emotions, and stir up reactions in viewers. An art form known as performing arts involves giving a performance in front of people. Performers use their talents to produce performances that are enthralling and inspiring. The performing arts may amuse audiences while simultaneously entertaining them. The interest and value in engaging in investigation in media, communication, and the creative arts emerged in light of this. What purpose do research in the media and creative industries serve? How can this branch of study improve its research to benefit society? The quality of the studies undertaken by those with knowledge in this field is what this year’s symposium expectations are based on.

The various types of media are instrumental in shaping people’s perception by promoting awareness of sustainable development. Both electronic and print media are crucial in reporting on sustainable development goals and raising awareness among the masses, thus enhancing understanding of the sustainable development agenda.
Liberal arts, in most quarters, include the humanities and social sciences, which are collections of academic disciplines such as language and literature, philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology, education, psychology, economics, political science, international relations, arts, aesthetics, art history, and so on. In contrast to other learning endeavors that are referred to as “professional” in academia, these are essentially the “subjective” disciplines. They are valued as important to life and life values, and they are critical to the making of cultures and civilizations worldwide.
The symposium’s theme is Media and Liberal Arts for Sustainable Development. A wide range of papers can be presented under this theme, and the following sub-themes have been identified. You are invited to submit abstracts on any of the following themes:

| KEYNOTE SPEAKER – Professor Mark Pearson, School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science, Griffith University, Queensland, Australia Mark Pearson is Professor of Journalism and Social Media in the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia. He is a member of the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research within the Arts, Education and Law Group. He is a former section editor of Australia’s national daily newspaper The Australian and has since produced freelance journalism for a range of publications, including The Australian, the Far Eastern Economic Review, the Wall Street Journal, the Otago Daily Times, Crikey.com.au, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Gold Coast Bulletin. Professor Pearson’s fields of expertise are media and social media law and regulation, journalism ethics, media freedom and mindful journalism. He is a collaborative academic researcher who has worked on a range of projects, including Mindful Journalism, Reporting Islam, the impact of the law upon journalists, restrictions on mental health reporting, the interaction of journalists with vulnerable sources, censorship and the media, government spin, and the impact of new technologies on journalism. |  |
