As an initiative directed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo and guided by the Rector of Sri Palee Campus, the Sri Palee Campus, in numerous ways, engages in contributing to the achievement of United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The seventeen SDGs which contain several targets to be met by 2030 are multidimensional but interconnected with each other. As education is one of the pillars for implementing SDGs, Sri Palee Campus affiliated to the University of Colombo also plays a critical role in supporting and accelerating SDGs’ success as a part of the educational institution which has the capacity to generate, translate, and disseminate relevant knowledge expertise in engaging academic disciplines as well as societal needs related to SDGs.

Sri Palee Campus is engaged with enhancing the implementation of SDGs at society level such as teaching, operations of governance, and community engagement. The two departments of Mass Media and Performing Arts are related to creative industries in the field of media and performing arts and contributes to selected SDGs by providing with free equitable higher education for qualified students selected based on the highest marks obtained from an aptitude test and island wide G.C.E. (A/L) examination, hostel facilities, and free health services and are engaging in community outreach programs. The campus also is engaging in other various activities such as water and waste management and protecting greenery of the campus premises (Click Campus Contribution to read more). Similarly the recently established On-Campus Career Guidance and Community Outreach Unit promotes community engagement activities by both staff and students.
