The newly established Department of Languages currently offers English language courses as compulsory service courses for both first and second year undergraduates, and optional courses for the third and fourth year students. In addition, Hindi and Tamil languages are offered in all years as optional courses. The Department of Languages is planning to offer BA courses in Language Teaching which can provide quality language education in the country.

The aims of the languages courses offered by the Department of Languages are:

  • To provide quality language teaching and education enhancing both professional and pedagogical skills across the country to meet changing needs.
  • To provide knowledge, understanding and the skills to communicate and interact with people meaningfully across cultures in the multicultural world.
  • To seek to inculcate in students the ability to use the language to understand and appreciate other cultures.
  • To strengthen and increase its interdepartmental collaborations to create interdisciplinary opportunities for students in the fields of Media Studies and Performing Arts.
  • To expand and increase the offering of languages as quality service and/or optional courses according to the needs of the Sri Palee campus undergraduates.
  • To provide language education as a means of communication used by different individuals and to enable them to use the tool of language to develop their own intellectual and expressive voices.
  • To provide opportunities for quality English education in the country through training given to undergraduates to become responsible and competent language teaching professionals.
